Sorting Machine - Science Museum

Factory Settings

Role - Design Developer and Production

I was brought in by Factory Settings to help develop and produce this sorting machine for the Technicians exhibit at the Science Museum.

This was an interactive display where the user would programme a robotic arm which was positioned in the centre of the structure to collect and sort through recycling. In doing so the arm would collect balls from the front of the structure and distribute them into one of the large grey bins depending on the material type. The balls would then roll through the structure and appear at the front again, ready for sorting.

It was my role to re-model the structure into a fully functioning model, making sure it was jointed accordingly. I also programmed and machined the parts ready for finishing. The structure itself was made from FR MDF while the railing was laser cut from sheet steel.
